Russell Wilson is going to get PAID this offseason.

The Steelers starting QB has led the team to their best offensive output in years and a spot atop the AFC North with a chance at the number one seed in the conference still in play.

But it's never too early to plan for the future when your QB is heading into his late 30s, and that's exactly what AJ Schulte of A to Z Sports NFL Draft did in his latest mock:

Steelers Select Penn State QB Drew Allar 27th Overall in 2025 Mock Draft

Listen, I don't personally think Allar should go in the first round, but I'm confident that he will. Someone will gamble on the tools he has as a passer.

It's safe to say the Justin Fields experiment didn't work out for Pittsburgh. Russell Wilson has had a resurgence this season, but he'll be 37 when the season ends and is a pending free agent. The team needs a long-term solution under center.

Look, the Steelers might still be recovering from the last collegiate QB they took from the state of Pennsylvania, but Allar is the polar opposite of QB Kenny Pickett and one that makes a lot more sense for the Steelers.

Allar is only 20 years old, 6-5, and around 240 pounds, and has some of the best physical traits in the class. He's far from a finished product, but with the Steelers likely re-signing Russell Wilson, a project at QB is finally ok.

Let's just say the Steelers re-up Wilson for three years and he plays the duration of that deal, with Allar as his backup for that time. Well, he would be taking over at only 23 years old, which is younger than potential rookie of the year QB Bo Nix (24) and the same age as Jayden Daniels.

But he would have three valuable years of experience and leadership from a Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer via Russell Wilson.

As for Justin Fields, he may be the odd man out in this situation despite playing the best football of his career when going 4-2 to start the season for the Steelers.

But at only 25 years old and with the intangibles that he's displayed this season, Fields is going to be highly coveted come March, meaning the Steelers will likey be selecting for a new backup QB come April, and his name might be Drew Allar.
