Recent history shows that a trade-up for the Lions isn't out of the question on day three, even with limited assets to move
The Detroit Lions have quite the gap to wait on during day three of the 2025 NFL Draft. At this moment, the Lions do not have a pick in the fourth or fifth rounds, and they don't pick again until pick 183 in the sixth round. The Lions traded up twice on day two, and […]
The Detroit Lions have quite the gap to wait on during day three of the 2025 NFL Draft. At this moment, the Lions do not have a pick in the fourth or fifth rounds, and they don't pick again until pick 183 in the sixth round.
The Lions traded up twice on day two, and in the process, they gave up two future third-round draft picks and their fourth-round pick for this season. So in the minds of fans, that's it for Detroit. The thing is that this is pretty similar to last year.
Going into day three, the Lions had already traded up once. They gave away a third-round pick to get up to Terrion Arnold, and they did not have a fourth-round pick. They wound up trading up into the fourth to get Giovanni Manu, and they gave up a future third to do that.
This isn't the scenario that shows the Lions could move up, it's the one right after that where the Lions traded back into the fourth a second time by giving up a 2024 fifth, sixth, and a 2025 fourth.
The Lions have pretty much all of that to give right now if they wanted to move up. They don't have the fifth, but they do have a high sixth-round pick that's nearly a fifth, they have an additional sixth, and they have the future fourth. They also have this attitude about players they like.
"The well runs dry at some points in these Drafts, so you better get the guys you really, really want, then you’ve got to worry about the rest later. I do look at the stuff later. I do look at what we have in the future, and when we do trade future picks and all that stuff. I feel comfortable with it, but as long as they're guys that we love, we don’t flinch, we just go get them.”
That was Brad Holmes on Friday night after wrapping up day two. We don't know what the rest of the Lions board looks like, but if there are guys that they absolutely love, don't expect them to just let those guys walk away.
4-round Detroit Lions mock draft, Brad Holmes finally finds the edge and takes a big chance on the future
Here we are, Detroit Lions fans, on the final day of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Lions have walked out with three pretty good players so far: Tyleik Williams, Tate Ratledge, and Isaac TeSlaa. But with the trade-ups, the Lions now have quite a break between picks unless they trade up again. We'll see if […]
