The San Francisco 49ers will have to make a decision over whether to prioritize short-term or long-term goals when it comes to a potential push to trade for Myles Garrett.

Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, officially requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns on Monday, citing a desire to compete for Super Bowls.

San Francisco was famously one play away from winning the Super Bowl last February and, while the 49ers endured a down year in 2024, they have the roster talent to be back in the thick of the hunt next season.

With the 11th pick in this year's draft, the Niners also have the ammunition to make Cleveland an enticing offer, even though the Browns are dug in on their stance that they have no desire to trade their star defensive end.

However, the Niners — having endured a dearth of draft capital in recent years as a result of previous aggressive moves — would greatly benefit from infusing their roster with more youthful depth having found several starters in an excellent 2024 draft.

So, the 49ers must decide whether to sacrifice much of their capital this year to land a future Hall of Famer who could finally put them over the top.

But starting cornerback Deommodore Lenoir is in no doubt as to which path the Niners should pursue.

In a post on his Instagram story, Lenoir simply wrote: "Let's get this ring @flash_garrett."

That post followed another on X (formerly Twitter), which read: "What Type of Animal you wanna be ? We got Hyenas, Bears, Lions and Gorillas @Flash_Garrett."

Lenoir is known as the hyena, while Nick Bosa is the bear and Trent Williams has the nickname Silverback.

Though he has emerged as one of the best young corners in the game, Lenoir has obvious additional individual motivation for wanting the 49ers to trade for Garrett, as playing behind a front featuring both him and Bosa would make his life substantially easier going forward.

Whether he gets his wish is entirely dependent on the 49ers' hierarchy and if they decide to attempt to try to sway the Browns into a trade. Given the Niners' aggressive past history, it seems likely they'll at least make a phone call.
