The San Francisco 49ers will head into their Week 6 meeting with the Cleveland Browns with one key question hanging over their starting lineup.

Having missed Thursday's practice with a hamstring injury, Dre Greenlaw returned to practice in a limited capacity for Friday's final session before the 49ers fly to Cleveland for their first road game since the Week 2 win over the Rams.

Greenlaw, who has not played a full regular season since his rookie year in 2019, is listed as questionable as San Francisco looks to improve to 6-0.

Injury report observations

If Greenlaw cannot play against Cleveland, then Oren Burks would likely step in alongside Fred Warner. Burks is the 49ers' starting SAM linebacker on base downs and has impressed in taking over that role from Azeez Al-Shaair.

Should Burks need to shift into Greenlaw's role, then one of Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles or Dee Winters would likely deputize for Burks on the strong side of the formation on base downs.

Given the nature of Greenlaw's injury, the 49ers may well be wise to rest him in a game in which they are heavy favorites, with Cleveland's practice squad quarterback P.J. Walker set to start in place of the injured Deshaun Watson.

The main good news for San Francisco is that they will have their full complement of starting offensive linemen after Aaron Banks was declared available to play. That update is a far cry from initial concerns about a potential long-term injury for the starting left guard in the aftermath of the blowout of the Cowboys.

San Francisco may also have all of its running backs available for the first time since Week 3. Elijah Mitchell, who has missed the last two games with a knee injury, practiced for the second successive day on Friday.
