Jauan Jennings' incredible career performance against the Los Angeles Rams was marred by the San Francisco 49ers' letting slip a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in a heartbreaking 27-24 defeat.

The wide receiver exploded for 11 catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns in a remarkable demonstration of the rapport he shares with quarterback Brock Purdy.

It was not enough for victory as failures on defense and special teams doomed the Niners, with Jennings refusing to talk to the media afterward despite his astonishing efforts.

But recognition for his performance came in the form of the FedEx Air and Ground award.

Jennings was named as one of two Air and Ground players for Week 3 along with Carolina Panthers quarterback Andy Dalton. With the award only opened up to wide receivers and tight ends this season, Jennings is the first wideout to receive the honor.

That will be cold comfort to Jennings after seeing his exploits count for nothing following an epic meltdown from the Niners.

But it is nonetheless a piece of history for Jennings, which is the least he deserved for his stunning display.
