49ers take a risk that has the potential to pay off in a big way in a new 2026 NFL mock draft
A new three-round 2026 NFL mock draft sees the 49ers take a needed risk in the first round, and it could end up being a major win for the team.
As in recent years, the San Francisco 49ers saw injuries pile up and play a role in their season ending. The defensive side of the ball needs upgrades at multiple spots going forward. Some positions were hit by injuries in 2025, and others just weren’t good enough.
A new A to Z Sports 2026 NFL mock draft has the 49ers using their first selection on the defensive side of the ball. Not on an edge rusher or linebacker, though, which were the two position groups decimated by injuries in 2025.
Instead, the 49ers target an upgrade to their secondary. By landing a player who is often mocked in the second round, but when it’s all said and done, just might rise into being a first-round prospect.
49ers select South Carolina CB Brandon Cisse in the first round of a new mock draft
“Brandon Cisse hasn’t generated the buzz that many corners at the top of the class have thus far, but it’s coming. The league has taken notice of his man coverage skillset, and he has more than a few fans. For a 49ers defense that has been thin at corner for a while, Cisse can step in and carve out a role on day one, in my opinion.” – Rob Gregson, New A to Z Sports 3-round mock draft
Not everyone views Brandon Cisse as a first-round talent, but that could change soon
Former South Carolina and North Carolina State CB Brandon Cisse is one of the most underrated CBs in this year’s draft class. Has solid size at 6-0 and fantastic lateral quickness that he uses to make splash plays.
Many expect him to test as an elite athlete during the upcoming scouting combine. If he does that, paired with his most recent season of film at South Carolina, he will have a good shot at hearing his name in the first round.
