No San Francisco 49ers head coach has lifted the Lombardi Trophy since George Seifert did so at the end of the 1994 season.
Seifert won two Super Bowls with the 49ers during his spell as head coach having also won three rings during his time as an assistant to the late great Bill Walsh.
Yet he is still waiting on induction to the Hall of Fame.
However, Seifert could yet find himself in Canton next year after he was named as one of nine semifinalists for the coaches category.
Two coaches who worked under Seifert as coordinators, Mike Holmgren and Mike Shanahan, father of current 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, are also among the semifinalists.
The other six coaches in contention are Bill Arnsparger, Tom Coughlin, Chuck Knox, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer and Clark Shaughnessy.
A blue-ribbon coach committee will meet virtually on November 19 to discuss the semifinalists and select one finalist whose candidacy will be considered by the selection committee.
With five rings to his name, a .648 career-winning percentage as head coach and a .766 percentage with San Francisco, Seifert will hope his resume is enough for 2025 to be his year.
