The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came to New Orleans in January 2021, and it was a memorable weekend for the fans in pewter and red. Led by Tom Brady, the Bucs knocked out the Saints in the Superdome 30-20 in the Divisional Round, retiring Saints legend Drew Brees in the process.
As it turns out, that wouldn't be the last time that Brady would complete a pass to Rob Gronkowski during the postseason in the Big Easy. Same applies for Super Bowl Sunday, too. Well, at least technically that's true.
Both men now work for FOX, with Brady calling games as the network's top color commentator and Gronkowski serving as part of the pregame crew.
As such, they got the chance to connect one more time on Sunday before Super Bowl LIX, with Brady tossing it across Bourbon Street from one balcony to another.
Brady and Gronkowski didn't do all that much together in New Orleans in the divisional win back on January 17, 2021. Brady targeted Gronk five times, but only completed one for 14 yards.
Things were far different in Super Bowl LV. Brady found Gronkowski slipping out of the backfield for an 8-yard score to give the Bucs the lead at 7-3. On the following drive, Brady scanned the field and fired to the end zone to #87 again, who cut away from his defender for the score. Gronk led all Tampa Bay pass catchers with 6 catches for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns.
It might not be with jerseys on their backs, but Buccaneers fans can't help but smile now when they see one future Hall of Famer throw it up to another one. After all, both are a crucial part of Buccaneers franchise history.
