A lot can happen in a few short weeks when it comes to the NFL offseason. Rookie minicamp has come and gone. Titans OTAs are already amid their second week. And new Titans offensive lineman JC Latham is already making incredible strides.
When the recent seventh overall 2024 NFL Draft pick first stepped on the Titans' practice field with his new teammates, coaches, and a 380-pound blocking sled named "Bertha" he was still just a new guy figuring things out. But things have changed quickly.
"Bertha" is the technological invention of the Titans' new offensive line coach, Bill Callahan. The blocking sled is designed to teach proper technique and better simulate an actual defender for offensive lineman to practice against. According to new head coach Brian Callahan, it always takes offensive lineman a little time to get used to the custom blocking sleds given their incredible weight and necessary leverage technique required to move them.
Now, just 19 days after JC Latham first faced off against Bertha he's absolutely mastered the blocking sled. So much so that he's already coaching up his teammates on reps at OTAs this week (as you can see in the post below).
It's still early, but JC Latham is already stepping up as both a leader and an absolute beast for the Titans' new look offensive line. He was rooting on teammates, coaching them up, and bringing a confident energy at OTAs this week that you don't typically see out of incoming NFL rookies. Brian Callahan spent a good portion of his time at the podium on Wednesday gushing over how impressed he has been with JC Latham thus far:
"He doesn't carry himself like a rookie, which is a good thing."
Latham already looks like another perfect culture fit drafted by general manager Ran Carthon who should dominate immediately as a rookie for Tennessee.
