NASHVILLE — General manager Mike Borgonzi and new Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh aren’t done filling out their staff. Early returns on the coaching staff are promising for the first time in awhile after the team hired former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll to be its newest offensive coordinator.

It is a massive victory for Borgonzi and Saleh as they work to support 2025 No. 1 overall pick at quarterback, Cam Ward.

Mike Borgonzi delivers

Saleh’s addition as head coach last week was fine, but the Daboll acquisition is what Tennessee needed to truly have a chance to succeed.

Daboll, whose coaching days began in 1997 at William & Mary College, has a proven track record of quarterback development. With Saleh’s defensive expertise, Daboll overseeing Ward and veteran special teams guru John Fassel retained from former coach Brian Callahan’s staff, the Titans have the best top-end collection of coaches since the franchise employed Jeff Fisher, Mike Heimerdinger and Gregg Williams. Borgonzi and Saleh nailed the most essential hire.

As coach of the Giants, Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen attempted to trade up to the No. 1 overall pick with Tennessee for the right to draft Ward.

Borgonzi declined the offer, opting to pass on a package of draft picks that could have also help jumpstart the franchise’s never-ending rebuild. Ward now gets a proven commodity who believes in the young passer’s talents to try and take him to the next level. The Titans roster is still in need of serious repair, but the Daboll hire is the most important thing the club has done this offseason.

Saleh’s introductory press conference with Tennessee is scheduled for 2pm CT on Thursday, January 29.
