NASHVILLE — In a surprising development, Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley made his return to the practice field on Wednesday.
Farley, a former first round pick by the Titans in the 2021 NFL Draft, has spent the entire season on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List with a back injury.
After overcoming a ton of adversity, the Titans will now be opening Farley's window to return.
PUP/Reserve List
When a player is returning from the reserve/PUP list, they are given 21 days to be returned to the team's 53-man roster. The player can, however, practice with the team until those 21 days are over.
Tennessee currently has just 18 days left until the end of the 2023 season. So it is possible for Farley to practice with the Titans for the remainder of the year without ever needing to be activated. Should he look good and healthy enough to play, the Titans could put him on the 53-man roster at any point.
From a torn ACL in 2021 to his 2022 back injury, Farley has overcome a lot just to get to this point. When he first suffered his herniated disk last November, there was a fear that Farley's NFL career was over. It cost him the entire 2022 season and most of 2023, but his return to the practice field is a testament to his physical and mental resilience.
Farley has also dealt with some struggles away from the football field. He lost his father in a tragic accident at his North Carolina home back in August.
With the Titans currently sitting at 5-9 and eliminated from playoff contention, Titans fans may feel as if they have little to root for. But Farley is someone that every fan can get behind as a silver lining over the next few weeks.
