Commanders select Michigan TE Colston Loveland in a new 2025 NFL Mock Draft

Michigan tight end Colston Loveland makes a catch against Washington during the second half of U-M's 34-13 win in the College Football Playoff national championship game in Houston on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

"Going with a receiver or defensive playmaker would make a ton of sense for a vastly out-talented Washington team. But going with Colston Loveland also accomplishes a ton for this roster and the direction they're building around Jayden Daniels. Loveland can be his Jason Witten for a decade, moving the chains, creating after the catch, and providing better run blocking than what most young tight ends can muster."

A new A to Z Sports mock draft

Jayden Daniels was fantastic in 2024, and he did without a true difference maker in the run game and no real proven pass catchers outside of Terry McLaurin, of course. His top tight end throughout the year was veteran Zach Ertz who was solid but has clear limitations at this stage of his career. Luckily for the Commanders, though, the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft class is loaded with talent at TE. So they will have multiple solid options to add to the room and give Daniels a TE that can be a part of the foreseeable future of his career if they find the right one.

In this mock draft, they select Michigan TE Colston Loveland, who is the AP layer. I don't think he is getting the respect he deserves. Michigan's passing game, or lack thereof, seems to be making people forget how talented he really is. I think Loveland is closer to being TE one in this class than he is to being TE three. And I think he has a solid shot of being a day-one contributor wherever he lands. If that's in Washington, I think Daniels would help him do that. In that offense, I wouldn't be shocked if he became the team's second-most reliable pass catcher as a rookie.
