Adam Peters made strong case for one controversial 2026 NFL Draft prospect who could be top option for Commanders
Adam Peters goes in-depth on why people shouldn’t overthink one dominant NFL Draft prospect, who could be the Commanders’ selection with the No. 7 overall pick.
The Washington Commanders are on site at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, where they will have their eyes on top prospects in the NFL Draft.
General manager Adam Peters has a busy week ahead, and he kicked things off by speaking to the media on Tuesday, where he was asked an array of questions regarding the NFL Draft and the Commanders’ roster.
One thing that stuck out to me was his comments on the EDGE position and how he defended one hot topic that will be attached to a polarizing player in the NFL Draft.
Adam Peters defends EDGE prospects with short arms
There will be a lot of discussions and debates floating around the NFL community from now until the NFL Draft, and one topic will be heavily talked about, and that’s measurements. One of the top prospects in the NFL Draft, EDGE Rueben Bain Jr, is rumored to have shorter-than-ideal length, which has caused a stir in the draft community for months.
General manager Adam Peters wasn’t asked about Bain Jr. directly, but he was asked about the EDGE position, and the shorter arms debate, and he backed up Bain Jr. in an indirect way.
“In terms of guys with shorter arms, and there are a few in this draft that are really, really good players,” Peters said. “I can go into days on this arm length thing, because every time you measure somebody’s arm, it could be 30, 31, 32, 33, just depending on who measures it. So, you get a pretty good idea of how long their arms are with that, but it’s really how well they play with whatever length they have. Some guys have shorter arms that play with great length and extension all the time. Some guys have really long arms that don’t use their length as well. So you know, it’s great to have that length, but it’s also how they use it and how it comes out on the tape. And so some guys can excel with shorter arms by doing things differently.”
Should the Commanders consider Rueben Bain with the No. 7 overall pick?
Bain Jr. will be one of the top prospects in the NFL Draft, but there’s no doubt that teams will have their reservations about his length at his position, as they have for the last few months already.
There will be discussions of him playing more inside instead of an EDGE in the NFL, but regardless, Bain Jr. was one of the most dominant players in college football last season. It only takes one team to select Bain Jr, but there’s a chance he falls to the Commanders at the No. 7 overall pick with David Bailey and Arvell Reese also available.
Bain Jr. finished his final season at Miami with 12 sacks, 83 pressures, and a pass rush win rate of 23.5%, which will translate to the NFL. The Commanders can play him inside and outside with their new defensive scheme under Daronte Jones, which will be a balance of 3-4 and 4-3. His arm length shouldn’t be an issue after Peters says the film tells the story about measurements.
