The Washington Commanders outperformed pre-season expectations more than anyone last season. As a result, expectations are sky-high for the Commanders heading into the 2025 season.

The team was quieter during the open stages of free agency than fans were hoping for. Now, all eyes move to the 2025 NFL Draft, and in a new A to Z Sports mock draft, they land a versatile chess piece for Dan Quinn's defense.

"At this point, it's the best player available for the Commanders and that's certainly Walker. Washington could easily go cornerback, here, as well, but they need that chess piece to replace Dante Fowler Jr. and Walker has all the tools and versatility to get that done. The fact he's still on the board at this point can certainly be considered a steal.

Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. will have to get creative when it comes to how they use Walker since Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu are both in the fold, but if there are any coaches in the NFL that can get it done, it's those two. Walker can thrive in their multi-look defense and could eventually serve as Wagner's replacement once he retires."

Georgia's Jalon Walker is a unique defensive prospect. Walker spent extensive time as both a stand-up linebacker and as a pass rusher. He can be a valuable swiss army knife for a coach like Dan Quinn, who is a respected defensive mind.

He can stop the run or drop back in coverage as a linebacker, as well as being able to rush the passer from either the defensive line or by bringing him on a blitz. The Commanders need to add game-changers on the defensive side of the ball, and Walker would be the one to do that. The bonus is that he has game changing upside at multiple positions, which would offer the Commanders some flexibility in training camp to build out their starting defense for 2025.
