The Washington Commanders’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks got even worse after seeing franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels go down with a gruesome elbow injury late in the game.

Head coach Dan Quinn kept Daniels in the game, even with the team getting blown out 31-7 in the fourth quarter, which stirred up a lot of debate in the national media and the fan base. Quinn later took accountability and admitted to missing the mark on taking him out to protect him.

Well, now the coaching staff has yet another difficult decision to make after the recent injury update that could impact his entire career.

Jayden Daniels avoids serious injury

We heard that the injury wasn’t as severe as it seemed when it happened, but we’ve been awaiting the official results of his MRI. The team also obtained multiple medical opinions from top experts nationwide, and they received excellent news that he avoided ligament damage and doesn’t need surgery.

Daniels won’t have to be placed on IR, and he won’t need surgery, which means it’s not a long-term injury at all. For now, Daniels will recover, and the team will reevaluate the injury after the Commanders’ bye week, which comes after the Miami Dolphins game in Madrid next week. The Commanders are 3-6 with a matchup this Sunday against a really good Detroit Lions team, and another loss would pretty much eliminate them from any playoff hopes.

The Commanders made a mistake with their first decision to keep him in the game, and now they have yet another tough decision to make and that’s whether Daniels should play again this season or not.

Should Jayden Daniels play or sit for the remainder of the season?

The Commanders need a miracle to make the playoffs, and another loss on Sunday could be another nail in the coffin. Adding a loss to the Dolphins, too, becomes a sinking ship of a season. If the team reevaluates Daniels during the bye week, the Commanders will still have six games left to play and no actual playoff hopes to play for. Should the Commanders let Daniels play with this team, or have him recover for the rest of the season?

Daniels is still a young quarterback who needs in-game reps, and I’m all for that, but at what point would it actually hurt him? If Terry McLaurin doesn’t return, and Daniels is still playing with wide receivers that won’t be here next season, then how much positive work is he really getting in? The offense has struggled mightily over the last few weeks. That’s not even considering the risk of another injury, which would be the fourth this season.

He’s had to play hero ball all season with an inconsistent run game, no true weapons on offense because of injuries, and an offensive line that allowed way too many hits on him. The defense shows no signs of improving, so you can almost guarantee that Daniels will be battling from double-digit deficits for the rest of the year. There’s a true argument for both sides, and it’s a critical decision that could impact Daniels’ career positively or negatively.
