The only thing people can think about after the Washington Commanders’ blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks is how Jayden Daniels suffered a significant elbow injury when he shouldn’t have been in the game.

The decision to leave Daniels in the game was an immediate topic of discussion with a lot of fans and media angry at the coaching staff for risking Daniels’ health in a game that was over. Head coach Dan Quinn talked about the decision after the game, and it was not what fans wanted to hear.

He said there was never a discussion to take Daniels out of the game, but he revisited the decision today after thinking on it more.

Dan Quinn takes full accountability for Jayden Daniels’ injury

Quinn had the night to think about everything and rewatch the game, and he made a point to talk about the decision again and finally admitted what everyone already knew.

“I know many of you have been asking about the thought process of Jayden [Daniels] being in the game in that situation, and I get that,” Quinn said. “I’ve been thinking about it, honestly, nonstop too, and you know, for me, the answer is, man, I missed it. But I’ll fill you in on my thought process. At the start of the fourth quarter, I guess it was probably like 12 and a half minutes left in the game, and that was going to be the last drive for a couple of guys, Jayden and Zach [Ertz], and Deebo [Samuel Sr.] and Laremy [Tunsil]. And so we weren’t going to have any read-run plays, meaning no carries for the quarterback on a run. And honestly, man, that’s where I missed it. Of course, he can scramble; he’s Jayden. It’s what he’s special at, and that is 100 percent. That’s on me.”

This is what people wanted to hear after saying last night that it wasn’t a thought of his to take Daniels out. People just wanted to hear accountability for Daniels being hurt in a blowout game that was well out of reach. The team also punted on fourth down, so it wasn’t like they were fighting for some miracle of a comeback. He was also asked what made him reflect on it more last night, and he kept it very honest, and also provided somewhat of an update on Daniels.

“Yeah, the hindsight part is the hardest one,” Quinn added. “You know, that’s what I think about all night and nonstop. When you have chances and you look back and say, ‘Man, how do you do this differently? You know, so, this doesn’t happen.’ 12 and a half minutes – I thought, ‘Okay, this is the last drive for them and what we’ll do.’ And so, I just missed it. Honestly, there’s no other reason behind that, and I’m just mad, upset, all those things. And then as far as timetables for Jayden, they’re still gathering the last little bit of information and should have maybe a further update as the week continues with him.”

Daniels shouldn’t play again this season

The injury looked very serious, and we are still awaiting official results of his MRI from today, but early reports are that Daniels avoided disaster. He left with a very bulky air cast on his left arm, and we all assumed the worst and that his season was over. Reports are that it’s just a dislocated elbow with no fractures, which is very positive news. Daniels could likely come back at the end of the season, but this team isn’t good enough to win enough games to keep their hopes alive, and now the team must fix their mistake by holding him out for the rest of the year, even if he is healthy enough to play again this season.
