The Commanders catch a major injury break hours before kickoff in Week 9 matchup against Seahawks
The Commanders get much needed help to try to save the season.
The Washington Commanders are looking to save the season with a must-win matchup against the Seattle Seahawks at home.
Injuries have continued to be a major factor in the season, and wide receiver Terry McLaurin is out once again with no timetable for a return. The good news, however, is that the Commanders are getting back their leader, Jayden Daniels, to create the magic we all know he is capable of. There were a handful of injuries we’ve been monitoring over the week as game-time decisions for the Commanders, and we finally have an answer on who is playing.
We’ve been waiting to see if Laremy Tunsil, Johnny Newton, and John Bates would play after being listed as questionable, and thankfully, all three are good to go.
Commanders’ inactives vs the Seahawks
The Commanders already announced that recent free agent addition Treylon Burks would be elevated for his debut in Washington with McLaurin out, and the team announced the rest of the inactive before kickoff.
Corner Noah Igbinoghene is inactive for the second straight week and is certainly a name to watch with the trade deadline just days away. Kain Medrano is back on the inactive list after being active last week, and the defense will likely give Jordan Magee and Tyler Owens increased roles once again.
Losing tight end Colson Yankoff is a big piece for special teams, but luckily, Bates will be there on offense to try to help out a struggling run game with his blocking skills. You obviously want your franchise left tackle playing to protect Daniels’ blindside, and hopefully the offense can keep up with the duo of Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. wasn’t sure if Newton would play with his injury, and talked about how the defense would’ve had to make even more changes without him, so getting him ready for the game is major. The Commanders’ defense needs to get stops and turnovers like they did in the first half of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but for four full quarters this time.
This is a season-defining game
A win keeps the season alive for the Commanders, and a loss would send their playoff hopes to about 5% and pretty much seal the deal for the season. The team could also change its approach for the rest of the season, and possibly sell over the next 48 hours. There’s a lot that can change with the outcome of this game.
