We are now down to just one open head coaching job in the NFL.
After the Seattle Seahawks opted to hire Mike Macdonald according to multiple reports, the Washington Commanders is the only team in the NFL that is still in search of their next head coach.
The Commanders are down to three known candidates to take over the team. Aaron Glenn, Dan Quinn, and Anthony Weaver are in the mix to be the next coach in Washington.
The Commanders are going to end up hiring a defensive-minded coach to take over for them. The Detroit Lions defensive coordinator, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, and Baltimore Ravens defensive line coach are all in jeopardy of having to be filled for next season.
In an offensive league, the Commanders looked to be on the right track to hire Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be the guy there. Unfortunately for the Commanders, he chose to stay in Detroit for another season.
The Commanders are in a position to have a rookie quarterback next season and an offense that needs to be ignited. Washington traded off some key pieces to their defense for the future in 2023, but they’ve had some pretty good units in the past on that side of the ball. It is the offense that has held them back for years.
Expect Washington to fill the job soon, with no other openings left in the NFL. With any hire, you have to let it play out, but there is reason to have early concerns.
