The Washington Commanders undoubtedly had the steal of the 2025 NFL draft when they found their franchise running back in the seventh round.

The hype for all of training camp was around one rookie running back who flashed his big-play ability, which Washington was missing, and even allowed the team to trade away former starter Brian Robinson Jr.

His career is off to a hot start, and Bill Croskey-Merritt is racking up stats, collecting accolades, and signing life-changing deals off the field.

Bill Croskey-Merritt signs exclusive deal with Nike

When your name starts to blow up in the national media, and people are starting to see your potential shine through, you earn opportunities that you’ve worked for on and off the field. Croskey-Merritt’s story of being unable to play his final college season and then becoming one of the more impactful late-round rookies of the season has been inspirational.

His on-field success has led to him signing an exclusive deal with Nike, which Premier Athlete Agency and agents Wyatt Mumfrey and Alex Styrt announced.

I can’t recall ever seeing a seventh-round rookie sign a major brand deal, such as one with Nike, let alone within five weeks of his career, which is a testament to his work. Croskey-Merritt joins Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin as Nike Football athletes.

Bill Croskey-Merritt has arrived

We saw the flashes in preseason, but his true arrival came last week against the Los Angeles Chargers, when he saw his highest snap and touch count of the season. Croskey-Merritt had a career day with 150 all-purpose yards, and 111 of them coming on the ground with two touchdowns. His career day led him to talk to the GOAT, Tom Brady, after winning his “LFG Player of the Game” award.

Brady’s award isn’t the only hardware that Croskey-Merritt earned this week, as he also went league-wide for the second time this season.

Rookie of the Week honors

If there’s one thing we know about rookies for the Commanders, it’s that they will win some Rookie of the Week awards all season long. Quarterback Jayden Daniels broke the record last season, and Croskey-Merritt is already adding belts to his collection. Croskey-Merritt won his first Rookie of the Week award during the Week 1 win against the New York Giants, and he added a FedEx Air and Ground award for Week 5, with more on the way.

There’s no doubt he will have more awards coming his way as his workload continues to grow throughout his rookie season, and the on-field success is leading to off-field opportunities of a lifetime.
