We are on to the next game for the Washington Commanders, who are now 2-2 on the season, and hopefully, the roster will be getting reinforcements soon.

Obviously, franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels and star wide receiver Terry McLaurin are the headlines for the Commanders’ injury list, but many more starters and contributors are missed. We’ve been waiting for answers on Noah Brown, John Bates, and Percy Butler, but we may have an answer for one of them with the Commanders’ recent free agent signing.

Commanders are signing WR Robbie Chosen to their practice squad

The Commanders are looking to bounce back this week after a tough loss to the Atlanta Falcons, and injuries will be the center of attention this week, with updates expected on Wednesday. In the meantime, the Commanders are bringing in extra help with veteran 32-year-old wide receiver Robbie Chosen.

Don’t expect Chosen to be a major contributor on offense. He’s bounced around the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers several times over the last two years. He has only had five catches in the last two years, but he did have a 68-yard touchdown for the Dolphins in 2023. The signing is more significant for roster moves than it is for on-field production.

This could signal injury significance for multiple players

Chosen signing to the practice squad signals that Brown could be headed to IR this week with his groin/knee injury. We also know that defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste suffered a torn pec and will be out for a few months, according to head coach Dan Quinn, so there is another roster spot open. The Commanders need to elevate another defender, though, to take Jean-Baptiste’s place, and hopefully, Preston Smith makes his debut next week.

McLaurin is also “week-to-week” with his quad injury, and we aren’t sure when he will be coming back. Signing Chosen means the team is expecting Brown or McLaurin to be out for a while, and it’s probably Brown, but we will know more before practice on Wednesday. McLaurin and Brown didn’t practice at all last week either.

In the meantime, the Commanders need to continue to lean on Deebo Samuel as the WR1 and keep their foot on the gas with Luke McCaffrey’s back-to-back touchdown games. Getting Daniels back this week will also help mask flaws that we’ve seen on the roster so far.
