The Washington Commanders are focused on filling their big board for the 2026 NFL Draft, with just over a month left until they’re on the clock.

The roster looks much more stable after spending the most money in free agency this offseason, but there are still plenty of roster upgrades that can happen. The Commanders still have free agent signings they can make, and they also have just six picks as of now for the NFL Draft.

One of those picks could be an explosive RB that the Commanders are showing a lot of interest in throughout the draft process.

Commanders are showing a lot of interest in Oregon RB Noah Whittington

The Commanders are making the rounds at college pro days and hosting NFL Draft prospects for top-30 visits to help lock in the players they want in April. They’ve already been linked to multiple first-round players, but now they’re showing a lot of interest in a Day 3 prospect who is an under-the-radar gem in this draft class.

According to Tony Pauline, the Commanders attended the Oregon Ducks pro day and showed strong interest in RB Noah Whittington.

Whittington has had a limited draft process while he recovers from a turf toe injury he suffered in the playoffs, but he did put up 24 bench presses at the NFL Scouting Combine, which was the second most by any RB. The Commanders are showing strong interest for a reason, and they should take him on Day 3 of the NFL Draft.

Why the Commanders should draft RB Noah Whittington

The Commanders had an overhaul in the RB room during free agency after adding RB Rachaad White and Jerome Ford, but they did lose Chris Rodriguez Jr. to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jeremy McNichols was a late return to the team as well, but they could still upgrade the RB room with the right player, with only Bill Croskey-Merritt under contract after the season.

Whittington could easily take Ford and McNichols’ roster spot with his strength and explosiveness. He had an ACL injury in 2023, but he came back to end his career at his best with a career-high 829 rushing yards and 6.2 yards per carry. Whittington is a smaller RB at 5-8, 203 pounds, but he’s strong as an ox and a blur with the ball in his hands.

Whittington is projected to go in the sixth or seventh round of the NFL Draft, which is exactly where I mocked him to the Commanders in my latest NFL mock draft. He would be worth one of their six draft picks and make an immediate impact.

I love the speed and contact balance he plays with, but he’s also very patient with blocks and waits for the lanes to open up before he hits his stride. Bill Croskey-Merritt was a late-round gem last offseason, and Whittington would be my choice for this draft class as the Commanders look to solidify the RB room for the future.
