NFL insider says Commanders aren’t finished addressing one premium position in free agency, and they have a target in mind

The Commanders have rebuilt the defense through free agency, but one NFL insider says another signing could come any day now if they can land their guy.

The Washington Commanders haven’t been as active as many expected, but they did take big swings on top free agents and just missed out on a few.

They have made four quality signings, however, and all four have been aimed at rebuilding the defense, which was the biggest need this offseason. They obviously aren’t finished signing players, and they’re not even done addressing one key position.

One NFL insider says the Commanders are looking to add another EDGE in free agency, and they have a top target in mind already.

Commanders are looking to add another pass rusher in free agency

The Commanders made a massive splash in free agency when they signed EDGE Odafe Oweh to a four-year, $100 million contract, but they aren’t finished. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says the Commanders are looking to still invest at the EDGE position, and K’Lavon Chaisson is the popular name that keeps coming up for them.

General manager Adam Peters said he wanted to invest in the position this offseason, and they need to add another player for sure. The Commanders still have just five EDGE players on the roster, and one is Dorance Armstrong, who had an ACL injury, and the others are just solid depth players. There are a handful of options still on the market for the Commanders that I like, and Chaisson is an interesting player to watch.

Why K’Lavon Chaisson would be a good fit

Chaisson is another intriguing, young player in free agency, and the 26-year-old is coming off a career season with the New England Patriots. He finished their Super Bowl run with nine sacks and 54 pressures, and played a career-high 641 snaps under Mike Vrabel. The one-year splash with the Patriots could actually be a sign of what’s to come as an ascending young player.

Chaisson is a stout pass rusher at 6-3, 245 pounds, but he is limited in the run game. He could play as more of an outside linebacker in Daronte Jones’ odd-man fronts on defense, and 626 of his 634 snaps came from outside the offensive tackle on the defensive line in 2025.

PFF has Chaisson making a three-year, $45 million contract in free agency, which is pretty hefty for his market. If the Commanders don’t land Chaisson, I’d keep an eye on Arnold Ebiketie and A.J. Epenesa as the next targets at a much cheaper cost.
