Terry McLaurin is Commanders’ biggest winner on offense after David Blough’s latest comments
Terry McLaurin could be in for a huge 2026 season after Commanders offensive coordinator David Blough says the offense will feed him 10 targets a game.
The Washington Commanders are heading into an important offseason while they look to get back their winning ways after a 5-12 season.
One of the biggest changes so far has been moving on from offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and promoting David Blough for a spark. Blough will bring a new scheme to the offense, which includes going under center more than ever before.
There are still a lot of unknowns around Blough’s scheme, but one player has absolutely nothing to worry about after his recent remarks on his approach to the offense.
David Blough says the offense will be built around feeding WR Terry McLaurin 10 targets a game
The Commanders have a lot of work to do repairing the roster this offseason, but they also need to get the most out of their best players in 2026. WR Terry McLaurin is at the top of that list after a disappointing 2025 season, and he could be in for a career year in 2026.
Blough knows how special McLaurin is after being around him for the last two years, and his targets disappeared far too often in games for no reason. That won’t be the case moving forward, according to Blough, who says that McLaurin will get plenty of opportunities in the new offense when asked about how important wide receivers will be.
“Incredibly, man,” Blough said. “These guys (Commanders’ wide receivers), whether they’re sparking a long run in the running game with blocking on the perimeter, or creating explosive passes. Like, this thing is going to be built around how do we get Terry (McLaurin) 10 targets a game and get him explosive reception after explosive reception to flip the field.”
Terry McLaurin needs a massive 2026 season after his contract extension
2025 didn’t go how McLaurin hoped after receiving his contract extension, following an offseason-long holdout. McLaurin suffered a quad injury in Week 3, which caused him to miss the next four games, then reinjured the same quad, missing another three games.
He still made explosive plays when he saw the field, but he only finished with 38 catches for 582 yards and three touchdowns. McLaurin has to bounce back and help Jayden Daniels, who was dealing with his own injuries in 2025.
The Commanders need to add another top wide receiver option in free agency or the NFL Draft to help give McLaurin one-on-one coverage. 2026 could be a big year for McLaurin with Blough looking to target him early and often.
