The Seahawks have significant concerns at tackle after their surprise season-opening defeat to the Rams.
Left tackle Charles Cross and right tackle Abraham Lucas both left the 30-13 loss with injuries, and the Seahawks have turned to a highly experienced veteran and perennial Pro Bowler for help.
Seattle is signing Jason Peters following a visit, according to his agent Elite Loyalty Sports. Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the plan is for Peters to start on the practice squad.
However, he could soon be called into action if either of Cross or Lucas are forced to miss time with their respective injuries.
Cross is considered day to day with turf toe, while Lucas is dealing with an aggravation of and old knee problem.
Seattle's backup options at tackle are largely devoid of experience. Jake Curhan started five games in 2021 while Stone Forsythe only has one start, which came last season.
Peters offers a considerable veteran presence as a nine-time Pro Bowler, though the former Eagle did not cover himself in glory in his previous start for the Cowboys in Week 18 last season.
In that game, a defeat to Washington, Peters allowed three pressures, per Pro Football Focus.
He spent the 2021 season with the Bears and started 15 games but, at 41, the Seahawks are unlikely to want to rely on him for more than a couple of games.
Seattle's banged up offensive line will face a stern test in Week 2, as the Seahawks travel to Ford Field to face a Lions team that pressured Patrick Mahomes 24 times in their stunning season-opening defeat of the Chiefs. Former second overall pick Aidan Hutchinson had seven of those pressures, per PFF, the edge rusher's tally tied for the second most among all NFL defenders in Week 1.

This has to change.
