Tennessee Vols athletic director Danny White isn't playing around.
The man who was hired in the wake of the recruiting scandal that almost buried the football program for good is determined to win big. And often.
White released a strategic five-year plan on Thursday that indicates his expectations for Tennessee athletics moving forward.
The "Rise Glorious" plan states that UT will win at least one national championship every four years. And every sport will win a conference championship at least every five years.
Tennessee will win a national championship in at least one sport every four years, and each sport will achieve at least one national top 16 finish every four years
Each sport will win a conference championship at least once every five years; Tennessee Athletics aims to capture five conference championships in one academic year while averaging at least three conference championships per year over the next five years.
In order to achieve those goals, Tennessee's coaches across all sports will be among the highest paid in the SEC.
"Perform an annual salary review to ensure that all coaching staffs are within the top third of the SEC in compensation if they are meeting or exceeding goal expectations," states the plan.
"Rise Glorious serves as a very clear roadmap for accomplishing Tennessee Athletics' mission of leading the way in college sports," said White. "This plan outlines why Tennessee Athletics exists and how we must approach each day in order to attain all of our specific goals for the next five years. It establishes standards we all must live by—staff, coaches, student-athletes, campus community and fans alike—as we restore Tennessee Athletics to the front of the pack."

"We are just scratching the surface of what we can accomplish here together," added Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel. "The passion, competitiveness, and camaraderie across the board in all sports is unmatched. It truly is a family. Our staff and student-athletes love going to events across all sports. We not only want to fulfill our goals in the overall mission of Tennessee Athletics, but we want to be a part of the environment at other venues as well. We are all encouraging each other to be the best, department-wide."
I'm sure a lot of folks will just look at this as meaningless words, but that's not the case.
Tennessee, under White's guidance, is setting high expectations.
And by making this plan public, they're holding themselves accountable.
This is a new age of Vols athletics. UT is already seeing progress, via three conference championships in the last year, under White.
If White is able to execute his plan, this is only the beginning of what could be a new golden age of Tennessee sports.
