Jalen Milroe's effort on pick-six at Oklahoma gets called into question by Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer

For all the flack that Alabama QB Jalen Milroe has caught over the course of his career, effort has never been one of them.
But following a play that ended up being very costly against the Oklahoma Sooners, Jalen Milroe missed a tackle that ended up turning a bad interception into a worse one.
His coaches weren't fans of that miss:
DeBoer Doesn't appreciate Milroe's missed tackle
"He’s got to find a way to get him out," DeBoer said when asked Milroe's effort on his pick-six. "He’s a good enough athlete to where either using the sideline or forcing a cutback, it’s not something you spend a lot of time practicing. It’s not his position he’s in. He’s got to find a way to get him out of bounds. I trust Jalen to do a lot of things and I trust that he can get him down. Find a way. Find a way to get the defense out there, find some way possible. Hold them to a field goal…
"…Those are things we want to try to do. That’s not something you practice a lot. I blow the whistle dead every time. Obviously, I don’t want guys tackling each other in practice, especially the quarterbacks. So find a way. That’s what I would say."
It was a rough look to cap off what was easily the worst performance of Milroe's tenure at the Capstone. One of the most hardworking and disciplined players at the University, it was a head-scratching move for Milroe, especially with over 22 minutes of playing time left.
"Certainly the number one priority every time you turn the ball over is to get the guy down," said OC Nick Sheridan when asked about Milroe's effort on that play. "And so, there’s different things and fundamentals that you’re trying to teach to players. You’re always trying to front the ball up to try to make it change directions, to try to help the pursuit. But obviously, we didn’t do a good enough job in that moment."
Hopefully, Milroe and the rest of the team can flush it and move on to an Iron Bowl victory as they try and salvage whatever slim shot at the College Football Playoff they still have.
