It doesn’t happen often when one player completely changes the trajectory of a position for a program, and becomes a trendsetter for future success. That’s exactly what Brock Bowers has done for the tight end position at Georgia. When you thought of great developers of tight ends in college football, the Bulldogs weren’t the first that came to mind, but that could change.

You hear Bowers’ name mentioned a ton when talking with prospective recruits that are considering Georgia, and that includes 2026 five-star Mark Bowman from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. Bowman announced on Thursday that he is down to seven schools, and Georgia is one of them. The Bulldogs are joined by Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Ole Miss, Miami, and USC.

The 6-4, 228-pound pass catcher was originally a member of the 2027 class but opted to reclassify. He is rated as a five-star player by multiple of the major recruiting platforms. Bowman currently sits as the No. 16 overall player, No. 1 tight end, and No. 4 player in the state of California for the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

Outside of Bowman’s finalists, he has a long list of impressive surprise. Some of the top programs that have offered include Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Colorado, Arkansas, Arizona State, Kansas, and Arizona among many, many others.

As a junior, Bowman was a dynamic weapon for the top program in high school football. In 12 games, he managed to haul in 32 receptions for 435 yards and eight touchdowns. That’s an average of 13.6 yards per catch.

Some believe that Georgia is separating themselves as the team to beat. Funny enough, Bowman even wears No. 19, which was obviously Bowers’ number while a member of the Bulldogs. If they are able to close on Bowman, Georgia will continue the dominance at the tight end positon that Bowers started, and guys like Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie are continuing.
