The Georgia Bulldogs secured a dominant 41-21 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon.

While the win was a major boost for Georgia and its fans, it came with a brief scare involving tight end Lawson Luckie.

Luckie exited the game in the second quarter after taking a hard hit to the head from Mississippi State defensive back Jahron Manning, a collision that initially appeared to knock him unconscious.

Fortunately, Luckie walked off the field under his own power but did not return for the second half.

Following the win, head coach Kirby Smart offered some relief to fans by providing an encouraging update on Luckie’s condition that is far from as bad as it looked.

“He obviously got a shot to the head. He’s fine, he’s moving,” Smart said. “He wanted to go back into the game, but the powers that be held him out.”

After the hit on Luckie, Manning was ejected from the game for targeting. Before leaving the field, though, he took a moment to check on Luckie to make sure he was okay.

Luckie has recently been a huge part of Georgia’s offense this season

Luckie has recently played a big part in Georgia’s offense. His best game of the season was a few weeks ago against Ole Miss when he hauled in five receptions for 43 yards and three touchdowns.

Smart refused to give Luckie too much credit for the win, though he still handed him his flowers.

“This guy [Lawson Luckie], man. He speaks up in every meeting. He loves the place. His dad played here. He never complains. He doesn’t gripe. He just keeps working,” Smart said after Luckie’s huge day against Ole Miss.

“He’s got some of the best toughness in our program. Never complains. He probably statistically wasn’t having the year he wanted to have, but he never pouted. What about Dillon Bell? That play Dillon Bell makes probably broke the game. It changed the field position, put us in milk mode, put us in what we’re really good at four-minute offense, chew up the clock. That play Gunner [Stockton] and Dillon [Bell] makes and Lawson’s three touchdowns were really big part of the second half.”

Georgia returns to Sanford Stadium next Saturday night for a matchup against No. 11 Texas. The hope is that Luckie is cleared to play by then.
