Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell from the 2026 recruiting class has decided to take some extra time before announcing his commitment, and it looks like it's due to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Cantwell had originally intended to announce his decision on April 30, but he revealed a change of plans on Wednesday.

In a social media post, he shared that he will now be making his decision on May 13. Additionally, Cantwell mentioned that he will take an unofficial visit to Georgia on May 10.

"Sorry for the delays," Cantwell wrote in his post. "Had to make sure I did it right the first time."

Cantwell also confirmed that his final decision list consists of the same four teams as before: Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, and Oregon.

Cantwell is a 6-foot-7 and 300-pound offensive tackle from Missouri who is not only the number one player in his state, but also in the nation.

This is overall great news for Smart and the Bulldogs, who will get the last word before Cantwell makes a decision.

Kirby Smart Expected to Be More Aggressive with NIL

In the era of NIL, money plays a major role in recruiting top talent, and the Georgia Bulldogs have notably lagged behind some of the other powerhouses in this area.

But that’s expected to change.

According to On3’s Vice President, Steve Wiltfong, Smart and the Bulldogs are preparing to invest heavily in the 2026 recruiting cycle and to secure the best talent available.

"I think this is truly the recruiting cycle where we see Kirby Smart and Georgia kind of let it rip a little bit more on the NIL front," Wiltfong said."I think when he talked to some people, I think he was a little, to a certain degree, I think he thought that people were full of shit at how much they were actually getting, and that Georgia was winning with the way that they were recruiting and developing players internally.

"But to have some misses on the recruiting trail and know that those misses were purely because of NIL, I think we're seeing Georgia arming up in that arena more than ever in 2026."
