Alabama got some big news on Tuesday when 2025 Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee School tight end Marshall Pritchett opted to flip his commitment from the North Carolina Tar Heels. That last name should be very familiar to Notre Dame football fans, getting flashbacks to his father Wes Pritchett, and his past dominance wearing the blue and gold.

His father was the leading tackler on the 1988 National Championship Irish team, the last championship. In total, Pritchett played for Notre Dame from 1985-88. He then spent three seasons in the NFL after being selected in the sixth round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.

His son is considered a three-star by the majority of the major recruiting platforms. The exception is 247Sports, which ranks him as the No. 222 overall player and No. 15 in the 2025 recruiting class. Pritchett also ranks as a four-star player on the On3 Industry ranking, currently sitting as the No. 29 tight end nationally.

The Georgia standout had been pursued by several big time programs over the last several months. Aside from Alabama and North Carolina, Pritchett also held offers from Miami, Auburn, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Florida State, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Missouri, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, West Virginia, Arizona, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Boston College, Purdue, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia, Duke, SMU, and UCF among others.

In eight games so far this season, Pritchett has hauled in 35 receptions for 397 yards and five touchdowns. That’s coming off of a dynamic junior campaign for Pritchett where he hauled in 44 receptions for 621 yards and four scores. The 6-5, 220-pound athlete is a talented pass catcher with a nice combination of athleticism and length.

Despite camping at Notre Dame a couple of times over the last several years, the Irish staff never pursued Pritchett. They have held a commitment from tight end James Flanigan for some time, and funny enough he is also the son of a former Notre Dame football player in Jim Flanigan.
