When you think about Notre Dame football and player development, the tight end position is one that comes to mind quickly. The Fighting Irish have a strong history of developing that position, including names such as Dave Casper, Mark Bavaro, Kyle Rudolph, Cole Kmet, Tyler Eifert, and Michael Mayer among many others. The names speak for themselves.

In the 2026 class, Mike Denbrock and this offensive staff have their eyes on several talented tight ends. That includes underrated Omaha (Neb.) Millard South standout Isaac Jensen, who the staff offered on Tuesday. A lesser-known name for those who follow recruiting, Jensen has begun to blow up this offseason, and he could end up being a bit of a redemptive story in the end.

If you think back to the 2024 recruiting class, Notre Dame was very fond of Nebraska standout Carter Nelson, who was one of the top players in the cycle at his position. Despite countless efforts, the Irish staff was not able to close on Nelson, who eventually committed to the in-state Cornhuskers and opted to stick with his commitment in the end.

Jensen could end up being a similar story, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see Notre Dame make a strong push for the talented player. While Nelson was a miss, this could be a way for the Irish to make up for their loss in the state of Nebraska.

From a recruiting rankings perspective, Jensen is currently very underrated. He is considered a three-star recruit by every major recruiting platform that has him rated currently, sitting as the No. 566 overall player, No. 29 tight end, and No. 2 player in the state of Nebraska according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

Despite that ranking, Jensen has received attention from several prominent programs so far. Some of his top offers currently include Notre Dame, LSU, Florida State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa State, and Kansas.

As a junior, Jensen put together a tremendous season for a very good Millard South squad. In the nine games he played, Jensen hauled in 36 receptions for 593 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging a stellar 16.5 yards per catch. The 6-6, 220-pound pass catcher is a super smooth athlete who needs obvious physical development moving forward.
