Notre Dame football hasn’t been in this position in a very long time, coming into a national championship game with a realistic chance to win. The Fighting Irish faced the Alabama Crimson Tide back during the 2012 season to be crowned as the top team in college football. Most know how that ended, with a 42-14 humiliating loss.

This game on Monday night just feels a little different for this Notre Dame program. Ohio State is a tremendous team, and a fantastic test, but there is growing optimism that this Irish squad can not only keep it close, but win for the first time since 1988. The fans feel it, and hope to be proven right tonight.

As you can imagine, Atlanta is buzzing with fan support from both sides. NBC Sports lead college football and college basketball insider Nicole Auerbach is live on the scene, and took to social media to compliment the Irish fans and their energy leading into the game. Irish fans are hoping to repeat history, along with the Notre Dame fight song.

According to multiple people that are down there, Notre Dame fans have done their part to come show their support. The vibes are electric, and everyone is ready to go.

This playoff run has been magical for Notre Dame. If anyone would have told you that the Fighting Irish would be 14-1 and have a chance at history following the week two loss to Northern Illinois, everyone would have called you crazy. Yet, here we are.

The fan base has rallied behind head coach Marcus Freeman and this team, and there is a very real feeling that this group can compete with anyone. Beating Ohio State won’t be easy, but it doesn’t feel like the daunting task some are painting it as. The feelings around this program are just different, and the fans believe.
