It’s become a weekly tradition for Pat McAfee to pick against Notre Dame, something he’s done in each of the last two playoff games. Most Fighting Irish fans would probably like him to continue doing so, wanting to further the streak of them winning, and McAfee being wrong. Unfortunately, it appears that McAfee might finally be buying into the team.

During the Notre Dame 23-10 Sugar Bowl victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, McAfee took to X and made his admiration for a particular Irish player known. Quarterback Riley Leonard received a massive compliment.

This comment came after Leonard’s third down conversion in the fourth quarter where he hurdled over Georgia safety Malaki Starks. That was a moment that really decided this football game, extending the drive in a two-score contest, and eventually the Irish were able to close it out. That play was a big moment.

After having a 30 plus year major bowl drought snapped, Notre Dame now has a couple big opportunities in front of them to prove a lot of doubters wrong like McAfee. It starts next Thursday in the Orange Bowl against the Penn State Nittany Lions. That is the only team left standing in front of them for a National Championship berth.

This Irish team has been remarkable to watch. After a week two blunder against Northern Illinois, the lowest of lows, this team has managed to win 12 straight games. Even with their flaws, this Notre Dame team has bought fully into the Marcus Freeman personality. They believe they can win each and every week, and it’s showing consistently.
