Cleveland Browns rookie and former Ohio State star running back Quinshon Judkins is currently the only player in the NFL who has yet to sign his rookie contract.

Judkins was arrested in Florida last month on a charge of domestic violence and has been away from the team since. Cleveland still needs to finalize the details of his contract, which could potentially be fully guaranteed, as the players selected around him have received similar deals.

Now, a new development in Judkins’ legal case may open the door for him to rejoin the team and ramp up for the 2025 NFL season.

Quinshon Judkins Waives Right to a Speedy Trial

According to court documents from Broward County, Florida, Judkins’ legal team has filed a motion to waive his right to a speedy trial. This means the case could be delayed well into 2026.

If the case is indeed pushed back to 2026, that would clear the way for the Browns to finalize Judkins’ rookie deal and potentially with the team in Berea for training camp. Up to this point, the Browns have been publicly open on allowing him time to focus on his legal situation.

With the amount of time that has passed, it’s likely the two sides have agreed to terms and are simply awaiting signatures. Judkins was selected with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after rushing for over 1,000 yards last season at Ohio State and playing a pivotal role in the Buckeyes’ national championship run.

Judkins is expected to become the Browns’ starting running back at some point this season, joining a backfield that includes Jerome Ford and fellow rookie Dylan Sampson. While news surrounding Judkins has been quiet in recent weeks, this latest development suggests that movement could be coming soon. Judkins could still be subject to a suspension to start the season, that will be up to the league.
