The Kansas City Chiefs only had two quarterbacks active on Saturday for their playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

When Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter, it forced veteran backup Chad Henne into the game.

Henne has been in the NFL since 2008 when he was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.

The former Michigan standout led the Chiefs on an impressive 98-yard drive that ended with a Travis Kelce touchdown reception before the end of the first half.

After halftime, Mahomes returned to the game, despite his mobility being severely limited.

The Chiefs were fortunate to escape the game with a win as Mahomes showed that he's a warrior in every sense of the word.

If Mahomes had not been able to return to the game and if Henne, who is 37 years old, would have suffered an injury, the Chiefs would've been without a quarterback.

After the game, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid was asked who would've played quarterback if Mahomes and Henne would've been unavailable.

Reid revealed that running back Jerick McKinnon likely would've been the choice.

"We’ve got a couple (of) guys there that have played quarterback in college," said Reid. "Number one (Jerick McKinnon) was one of them. It would’ve probably been number one up.”

McKinnon played in a triple-option offense in college at Georgia Southern. And while he played quarterback for most of his time with the Eagles, he only attempted 81 passes at Georgia Southern (he completed 32 of 81 passes for 929 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions).

I doubt the Chiefs would've been throwing it much with McKinnon, but at least they would've had someone back there who has played the position before.

With Mahomes banged up, it'll be interesting to see if third-string quarterback Shane Buechele is active for next week's AFC Championship game.

Though it's not like Mahomes is going to come out of the AFC Championship game unless he's absolutely forced.
