Before this season, critics were suggesting Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs would take a step back. The loss of his safety net, Tryeek Hill, had many believing that Mahomes would struggle. Now, Mahomes is once again raising the Lombardi trophy.
The Chiefs, in dramatic fashion, drove down the field late in the game and secured the victory. Kansas City held on to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, 38-25.
With limited time on the field, Mahomes showed why he was worthy of the MVP. His continued dominance is something fans of the NFL shouldn't take lightly.
Case in point, even after suffering an apparent re-agitation to his injured ankle, Mahomes showed true grit by returning to the game. Let's be honest though, there was no way that Mahomes was going to allow his ankle to keep him out of the game.
Mahomes, even with an injured ankle, was able to stay poised and protected in the pocket, delivering huge passes when needed and reminding the world why he is one of the very best the NFL has to offer.
During the last drive for the Chiefs, Mahomes took off on the injured ankle for one of the best moments of the Super Bowl.
Andy Reid and the front office, take a bow
The Kansas City Chiefs cannot get enough credit for their off-season decisions. After the loss to Tampa Bay, Andy Reid and the front office prioritized protecting Patrick Mahomes. Ultimately, it seemed as though that was the difference maker in the Super Bowl.
Not only that but Andy Reid and the front offices' wizardry in the draft helped secure the victory for Kansas City. Sky Moore and Isaiah Pacheco made their presence felt, despite being rookies, showcasing how bright the future is for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs head coach was able to prove once again why he is one of the very best to ever coach in the NFL. For a while, it seemed as though the Eagles would dismantle the Chiefs defense all game. Once halftime was over, a flip was switched.
Andy Reid was able to diagnose a huge issue with the Eagles' defense and helped Patrick Mahomes exploit it.
Reid was relentless once he saw the issue with the Eagles' defensive alignment, allowing Patrick Mahomes to do Patrick Mahomes things. The talented coach paired up with one of the best quarterbacks in football was a mismatch nightmare for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mahomes and Kelce shine, yet again
There quite literally may not be another pair in NFL history like Mahomes and Kelce, once their careers are done. The duo was dominant early and often, connecting on monster plays and once again silencing the critics with their next-level connection.
Outside of his touchdown, Kelce impressed on the biggest stage. The top tight end finished his day with six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Mahomes, impressively, was efficient with the football with a near-perfect quarterback rating. The two-time Super Bowl champion finished his day going 21 for 27 for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensive heroics
Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton may soon become a household name due to his Super Bowl heroics. Bolton didn't have a single fumble recovery all season. His first fumble recovery this year resulted in a touchdown and turned the momentum in Kansas City's favor. The highlight-reel touchdown was a crucial moment in the first half.
Unfortunately, Bolton was a questionable call away from getting yet another fumble recovery for a touchdown in the biggest game of the season, and maybe his life.
Outside of Bolton's incredible play, Jalen Hurts was able to wreak havoc on the defense. Using both his arms and his legs he proved to be just a little too much for the Chiefs' stout defense. Frustratingly, it seemed as though every fourth down Hurts was able to line up under center and secure the first down.
Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough. Despite Jalen Hurts quite literally making history, his efforts fell short on the biggest stage.
Chiefs proved victorious
The future is bright in Kansas City. We have a feeling this won't be the last time that we see Patrick Mahomes in the big game.
