The Kansas City Chiefs are going on the road for a playoff game for the first time since 2015.

With the Buffalo Bills' wild-card round victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday afternoon, the Chiefs will travel to Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York for the divisional round of the playoffs. The game is scheduled to be played on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS

Kansas City and Buffalo squared off at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 14, with the Bills emerging as the victor in a 20-17 game. That game, of course, included an offside penalty on WR Kadarius Toney that wiped out a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of the game.

This will mark the first road playoff game of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' career after appearing in 15 consecutive playoff games at home. No, the Super Bowl doesn't count in those numbers, given they're played at neutral locations decided years in advance.

The Chiefs have played the Bills five times, including two playoff games, since they last traveled to Buffalo for a game. That game came in 2020 in front of an empty stadium during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This game will feature a much, much different environment.

Keep in mind that Kansas City will have one major advantage heading into this game. With the NFL moving the Bills-Steelers game to Monday afternoon, the Chiefs will have a two-day rest advantage over Buffalo, even with the game capping off the divisional round. At this time of the year, with players bruised and banged up, that extra rest can make all the difference in the world.
