Some people say that the Kansas City Chiefs have surpassed the Dallas Cowboys as America's Team, but we've got new proof that this team's dominance extends worldwide like we've never seen before.
According to ESPN's Stats and Information, with the 21-14 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 9, the Chiefs have become the first team in NFL history to win games in four unique countries. Of course, they have won a bounty of games in the United States during the history of the franchise, but they've won games in three other countries as well.
In 2015, they thrashed the Detroit Lions 45-10 in London, England. In 2018, they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 24-17 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico. Now, they've added Frankfurt, Germany to the repertoire, boasting a three-game winning streak and an undefeated record while playing abroad.
No other NFL team has seen this much international success, during the course of their franchise history. The best part of it is that these wins all occurred during the Andy Reid era.
Move over, Pitbull. Big Red is coming for the nickname, "Mr. Worldwide."
As the NFL continues its efforts to expand its fandom globally, the Chiefs have been a massive part of achieving that goal. The Week 9 game was more proof of the pudding as they helped produce a near-sellout crowd in Germany on Sunday.
The Chiefs might not play an international series game in 2024, but Kansas City could look to extend this international win streak in the future. This past offseason, they added Switzerland and Austria to their list of countries where they hold international marking rights. Could we see a victory in either of those countries by 2025? Only time will tell, but rest assured the league will be motivated to get this club in front of an international audience again in the not-so-distant future.
