The Kansas City Chiefs got good news on Tuesday regarding a position group that was in sore need of good news.

After word came down that DT Matt Dickerson was dealing with a turf toe injury, the team was officially down three interior defensive linemen on the 90-man roster. On Tuesday, we learned that one of those players was making his return to practice for the second time this offseason.

Fourth-year DT Tershawn "Turk" Wharton is back at practice after missing some time due to swelling in his surgically repaired knee.

“(His) knee swole up a little bit," Chiefs HC Andy Reid said of Wharton on Monday. "But he’s feeling good now.”

Wharton began the offseason on the active/PUP list and first returned at the beginning of August. He suffered a torn ACL injury during Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season and missed the remainder of the year due to the injury.

This is big news for Kansas City as Wharton is typically the first man off the bench to spell Chris Jones, who still hasn't rejoined the team due to his contract-related holdout. Expect the Chiefs to proceed with caution with Turk given how his knee reacted when he first came off the PUP list.

The Missouri S&T product has appeared in 38 career games in Kansas City, recording 64 total tackles, five tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery one interception and one pass batted.

In other injury news, OL Nick Allegretti (shoulder), DT Matt Dickerson (turf toe), CB Nic Jones (hand), DE George Karlaftis (illness), WR Nikko Remigio (shoulder), CB L’Jarius Sneed (knee), and WR Kadarius Toney (knee) all missed practice on Tuesday.
