The Kansas City Chiefs' injury situation heading into Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills is as bad as it has been all season.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid addressed the media on Friday, ruling out four players ahead of the AFC conference showdown.
"The players who didn't practice today were (Bryan) Cook, (Isiah) Pacheco, Donovan Smith, and (Drue) Tranquill. They'll be listed as out."
Reid declined to mention which of the four players were candidates for injured reserve. Reid was asked about Bryan Cook (ankle) and Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) and indicated both injuries were still being evaluated.
More information on Pacheco's injury:
If you'll recall, Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco had two offseason surgeries, one surgery on his hand and one to repair a torn labrum.
Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick asked Andy Reid whether his current injury was to the same shoulder. Reid's answer was brief.
"Yes," Reid responded.
Perhaps there is a reason that the injury has kept him out of practice this week. It could be something more severe than a "shoulder contusion." The extent of the injury might not be known at this time due to swelling, which means he could be dealing with something more significant, like a bone bruise or an AC joint sprain.
A silver lining with all of the injuries:
The Chiefs will have several players filling in for starters with all of the players ruled out this week. The part that won't get recognized is that many players who are stepping in already have starting experience.
"Yeah, well, the guys that are stepping in have played," Reid said. "So, that's the positive part of that. It's not new territory for them as they get in there. The way (Steve Spagnuolo) rotates people. The way Andy (Heck) rotates the offensive line. That works, too. They've done good."
Nick Bolton is expected to be activated to the 53-man roster and return to the lineup this week. He's the team's typical starter at the MIKE linebacker position.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire is expected to be the "No. 1 guy" at running back this week. He has 30 regular-season starts in the past four years.
Mike Edwards is expected to fill in for Bryan Cook, and he has 23 starts across five NFL seasons.
The player who is the greenest is rookie LT Wanya Morris. He played a full half last week and performed admirably, standing out with his performance in the run game.

- L'Jarius Sneed was limited on Friday, but he didn't receive a game status. Chalk it up to maintenance/rest on his knee.
