Hi. If you are new here, as in were not a fan before Patrick Mahomes, well, let me explain a bit: The Chiefs had a streak as long as 16 against the Denver Broncos, in how many straight wins they have had over their division rival. The Bronco's last win before that goes back to 2015 when Peyton Manning was the quarterback.
On Sunday, they lost to the Broncos in one of the weirdest games you will watch this year. Not only did Patrick Mahomes have the flu, but he injured his finger, and, oh, yeah, his offensive lineman sacked him. It truly was weird, and all in all, it reminds me of the Chiefs' 2017 playoff collapse against the Titans, where the Chiefs blew an 18-point lead, followed by a Marcus Mariota pass to himself.
This game featured everything, including a signature muffed punt from Mecoel Hardman, just in case your bingo card wasn't already full. After the game, he claimed full responsibility.
"I got greedy," Hardman said. "I got selfish… that's the reason we probably lost the game. I definitely take responsibility for losing that game," said Hardman, per Sam McDowell.
Hardman also tweeted out after the game something very similar:
"I lost us that game! Gotta be better! That's on me."
The Chiefs didn't lose the game on Hardman's muffed punt, but it certainly did not help anything. It was a team effort, and I'm sure anyone else on the team would say the same thing. Things got weird, but, hey, we move on, and so do the Chiefs.
