Chiefs OT Donovan Smith talking press conference

The Kansas City Chiefs have an ongoing situation that needs to be fixed, and one of the guys involved told the media what he was told and his expectations.

In the last month or so, all the conversations in Chiefs Kingdom have been about the offensive line. It's a weird situation that we don't really know how it will go, but trusting Andy Reid and Brett Veach know what they are doing.

Jawaan Taylor was signed to play left tackle, based on the money he received and the things we were being told. He had never played left tackle before in his career. They then drafted a right tackle to compete with Lucas Niang.

After the draft, the Chiefs signed Donovan Smith, a left tackle. The Chiefs now have to figure out who will be the left and right tackle come Week 1. As for Smith, he was asked if he knew what he would play when he got here, and if he had any expectations of what position he will play.

Smith kind of beat around the bush with the question as he laughed. Ultimately, he still let us know what he was expecting when he came to Kansas City.

"I don't know what the expectation was," Donovan Smith told the media on Wednesday. "Honestly, it was my first time going through quote-unquote free agency in my eight years. So, it was a new process, you know, obviously, I just left everything in God's hands. You know, obviously spoke with, you know, teams and whatnot, but this made the most sense for me and my career and then just, you know, going to win a championship.

"I think realistically my expectations were just, you know, take it one day at a time to prepare and then just wait and see what my options or what whatever the best fit was. In terms of this, I think it was what after the draft or whatever, I think I got a call to come to visit, that they wanted me to come to visit and I said, shoot I can come tomorrow if you want. It made sense. So, you know, we made that thing go in motion."

Reid said earlier in the presser that he isn't really worried about the offensive line. So, to hear that is good. It seems that no matter what the Chiefs do with the starting rotation at those tackles spots, they will have depth.

But this is so important because this is the protector of Patrick Mahomes' blind side we are talking about here. No matter what happens, Andy Reid and offensive line coach Andy Heck will get the offensive line rolling. Be on the lookout for who is starting at which positions during camp.
