The Kansas City Chiefs are honoring legendary WR Otis Taylor ahead of their preseason Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns.
A fourth-round draft pick in 1965 out of Prairie View A&M, Taylor was one of the most prolific receivers of his era. He dominated the league as a receiver during a period of football where the game was hardly as pass-heavy as it is now. It was almost as if he were plucked out of time.
By the end of his playing career, Taylor became a Super Bowl IV champion, a two-time AFL Champion, an AFL Championship MVP, and an AFL All-Star, and he'd earned two First-Team All-Pro selections and two Pro Bowl honors in 1971 and 1972.
Taylor died at the age of 80 last March following a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
His wife and son, Regina Taylor and Otis Taylor Jr., will serve as pre-game drum leaders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in preseason Week 3. They'll be up on the GEHA Drum Deck, which was introduced in 2019. There they'll bang the drum ahead of the game, getting the Chiefs Kingdom ready for Saturday.
The Tony DiPardo Spirit Leader for this game will be the Executive Director of Westside Community Action Network, Jorge Coromac.
Other pregame entertainment includes Leavenworth High School senior and contestant on season 22 of NBC’s “The Voice” Daysia Reneau singing the national anthem. Clinton High School JROTC will present the colors.
Preseason Week 3 will also mark the 39th annual Chiefs Charity Game, with the team slated to raise money for MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault) for the third consecutive year. Over the past two years, the team has raised more than $900K to help with hiring and education work in schools.
No flyovers for preseason games, but you can expect something special for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
