The Kansas City Chiefs have had two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time play for their franchise. Of course, there was Joe Montana, who was obviously much better when he played for the San Francisco 49ers, and they have Patrick Mahomes – two of the three best quarterbacks of all time.
Yes, in just seven years as an NFL player – six years as a starter- Patrick Mahomes is already a guy who is being considered one of the greatest of all time. When all you do is win, and you have three Super Bowls in five years, it's not hard to consider him in that spot.
There is still a very large group of people who have Tom Brady as the greatest of all time, which is fair. No one else has ever won seven Super Bowls. Most people will have Brady as the G.O.A.T., but it's getting to the point where it isn't crazy to say Mahomes is that guy.
But one guy who has won two Super Bowls is sold on Mahomes as the greatest ever. If you ask former two-time Super Bowl winner Torrey Smith, Mahomes is the greatest ever.
I think I'm comfortable calling Mahomes the GOAT. I've seen enough. I'm not being a prisoner of the moment either. He is different.
I am not quite on that train yet. I do believe that Mahomes has a chance to be the greatest of all time, but he isn't yet. I think a lot of it is prisoner-of-the-moment-type stuff. Now, if Mahomes gets a three-peat, something that has never been done before, then we can have the conversation again.
However, I do think that the 28-year-old quarterback is the best quarterback of all time, strictly from a talent perspective. He is the best to ever play the game. There is no one who has been better than him. He just isn't the greatest of all time yet. There is a difference there.
