At the team's facility on Friday, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce casually told QB Patrick Mahomes that he thought Taylor Swift was going to be at the team's Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears.
"He told me at the last minute," Mahomes said after the game. "There are some things with Trav, where he kind of just says it and you don't know if it's true or not. He says it so calmly. I remember one time, he told me, 'Hey, I'm going to one of the playoff (MLB) games.' And he just said it so randomly, and then he just went."
Mahomes said it was very much a Travis Kelce thing to nonchalantly say that Swift was coming to the game. And then like magic, she did actually show up to the game, making quite a stir on social media.
When Kelce caught a touchdown from Mahomes in the third quarter, things went bananas.
"Do you realize how much pressure there was on you today from the Swifties to get Travis Kelce a touchdown with Taylor (Swift) in the house today," FOX Sports reporter Erin Andrews asked Mahomes following the game.
Mahomes' response was classic.
"I heard she was in the house," Mahomes said. "I felt a little bit of pressure and so I knew I had to get it to Travis (Kelce). And of course, it was on a route where Travis, he just does his own thing and makes up a route and I throw it to him. I think he wanted to get into the end zone, just as much as all the Swifties wanted him to."
You heard that right. Kelce went a bit rogue on his route, as he's been known to do over the years. So, what did Mahomes do? He improvised alongside Kelce and made sure that he got a touchdown grab in from of his new boo.
Mahomes hasn't had a chance to meet Swift yet, but he expects it'll happen at some point in the future. Kelce has to return the favor, you know?
"She's a pop star," Mahomes said. "She's a tremendous singer, she's tremendous at everything she does. I haven't got to meet her, but I guess if she ends up being with Travis (Kelce) then I'll probably get to meet her at some point in time. (She) seems like a good person, so hopefully I get to meet her."
Of course, Kelce and Swift were spotted leaving Arrowhead Stadium together. So maybe, Mahomes will get a chance to meet her sooner rather than later.
