The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced modern-era semifinalists for the Class of 2024.

Only one former member of the Kansas City Chiefs made the list of 25 candidates. That player is none other than Jared Allen, who is in his fourth year of eligibility, and his fourth year of making the semifinalist round of voting for modern-era nominees.

A fourth-round draft pick by the Chiefs in 2004 out of Idaho State, Allen spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in Kansas City. He started incredibly hot, with 10 games started as a rookie. During those games, he recorded 31 total tackles, nine sacks, and 10 tackles for loss.

In 2007, Allen had the best season with the Chiefs. He led the NFL in sacks with 15.5,  earning a first-team All-Pro selection and Pro Bowl honors that season.

Allen's performance on the field wasn't the only part he played in the Chiefs' future success. He was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in 2008, and the franchise used one of the picks in that trade to select Texas RB Jamaal Charles, who'd go on to become one of the greatest running backs in franchise history. Charles was actually up for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, too, but he didn't make it to this round of voting.

Allen would finish his career a four-time First-Team All-Pro, a five-time Pro Bowler, and two times as the NFL's sack leader. He tallied 136 sacks during his career, which is currently good for No. 12 on the all-time list. It's also the most career sacks by a former Chiefs player, even though only 43 of his total came in Kansas City.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee will reconvene in December to trim this group down to 15 modern-dra finalists. Eventually, they’ll trim it down to just five modern-era players. The group originally was comprised of 173 players. The 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will be decided and announced during the week leading up to Super Bowl LVIII.
