The Kansas City Chiefs had one of the more rare situations you will see in the NFL, and the way it was handled, well, it could have been better.
The Chiefs were in the red zone trying to extend their lead over the Miami Dolphins even more in the third quarter. During that time, Patrick Mahomes scrambled for a first down and a huge play at that.
When Mahomes got hit helmet to helmet, his helmet shattered, and you could see a piece of it fly off. Mahomes then played at least two more plays before he was checked out, which is where things get weird.
The referee told Mahomes that he needed to change helmets, and he was not happy one bit. He changed helmets, and the team was forced to change some things from his old helmet to his new helmet during the break while the defense was on the field.
The Chiefs still ended up later scoring, and of course, everything worked out. It was, though, one of the weirdest things you will see in a game that was already weird. That seems to be what would happen when you play in subzero temperatures.
