The Dallas Police Department has officially issued an arrest warrant for Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice following the multi-vehicle wreck he was involved in on March 30, according to multiple reports.
The 23-year-old, Rice, is now wanted on eight total charges, including multiple felony charges. He'll face one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury. SMU WR/CB Theodore "Teddy" Knox, who is believed to have been driving Rice's Corvette in the accident, is also wanted on the same charges. The passengers in both vehicles are not expected to be charged with a crime.
The Dallas PD investigation is considered to be "ongoing." That means additional charges against Rice, Knox, and others could be filed at a later date.
Rice recently released his own statement following the accident, apologizing and taking full responsibility for his actions. His attorney, Royce West, held a press conference last week to answer questions. During that press conference, West said that he expected Rice to be charged.
Now that an arrest warrant has been issued, Rice will have 24 hours to turn himself in. He has not yet been taken into custody per reports. As for what the future holds in terms of football, Rice could be placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List, but it's unlikely they'll do so during the offseason.
He will eventually face suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, but the length and timing of that suspension depends on various factors. Namely, the league typically waits for criminal proceedings to conclude before issuing suspensions.
