The Kansas City Chiefs made a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Christmas Day tilt with the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16.

A key offensive player was placed on injured reserve.

A player was promoted from the 53-man roster from the practice squad to replace him.

Two players were also elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad via standard elevation.

Let's break it all down below.

Jerick McKinnon heads to injured reserve

The worst news of the day for the Chiefs is veteran RB Jerick McKinnon heading to injured reserve with a nagging groin injury. He'll miss the next three weeks of the regular season, and the first round of the playoffs as a result of his placement on injured reserve.

McKinnon has been a boon down the stretch for Kansas City during the past two seasons. He was a massive threat in the receiving game at the end of last year, plus the team's best pass protector in the backfield. Not having him available over the next three weeks is certainly going to hurt. They'll need Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire to perform their best and stay healthy during that span.

La'Mical Perine signed to the 53-man roster

A preseason standout, Perine had to be signed to the 53-man roster in this situation because he was out of practice squad elevations (Week 2, Week 9, Week 12). It'll be a great Christmas gift for Perine, who will get a nice bump in salary while he's on the active roster.

Perine has been the next man up in the RB pecking order in Kansas City. He'll have an opportunity to get some relief snaps, but if the Chiefs find themselves relying heavily on Perine, it likely means something will have gone wrong.

Still, it's hard not to remember Perine's impressive preseason showing against the Browns where he had four carries for 32 yards and three catches on three targets for 44 receiving yards, and a receiving score. Perine has just one carry for one yard during the regular season. He was targeted once in the passing game this season but didn't catch the pass.

MVPennel and Montrell Washington receive standard elevations

The Chiefs are going heavy with their defensive line personnel for the second consecutive week. DT Mike Pennel has been elevated again, likely paving the way for Matt Dickerson to be inactive in Week 16. That's welcomed news with Josh Jacobs expected to return to action on Monday.

WR Montrell Washington is getting the call-up with some injuries to the wide receiver position. Expect him to handle punt and kick return duties with Richie James expected to take a larger role on offense sans Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore. This is Washington's third and final practice squad elevation, but keep in mind that they'll reset once the playoffs begin.
