The Kansas City Chiefs have finally made an addition to the wide receiver room.
As first reported by some guy named Rickey on X (formerly Twitter), and then confirmed by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are signing former Cardinals WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown on a one-year deal.
Listed at 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, the 26-year-old University of Oklahoma product is a former first-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. He was traded to Arizona on the first day of the 2022 NFL draft after expressing displeasure with the run-first offensive system in Baltimore.
In his five-year NFL career, Brown has recorded 313 receptions for 3,644 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns, averaging 11.6 yards per reception in the process. He began his career with the Ravens and Lamar Jackson before being traded to the Cardinals to reunite with his college QB Kyler Murray. Brown revealed back in 2020 on the I Am Athlete podcast that the Chiefs made a late push to try and trade for him before the Cards pulled through.
In 2018, Brett Veach told The Ringer's Kevin Clark that he always thinks of former Steelers WR Antonio Brown when he's evaluating skill position talent for Patrick Mahomes because of his ability to improvise. Well, Marquise is the cousin of the All-Pro wide receiver and his game isn't too dissimilar. Beyond the clear need at the position, the move makes plenty of sense.
